The Fish Market on Aðalstræti
We went out for dinner at Fiskmarkaðurinn – The Fish Market, one of Reykjavík’s most stylish restaurants, tucked into a charming old building on Aðalstræti. The contrast between the traditional wood paneling and modern bamboo accents works beautifully, and the bold chandeliers add a touch of drama to the space. It feels both sleek and warm – a perfect blend of old and new.

Service was excellent. Lilja took wonderful care of us – friendly, attentive, and informative without ever being overbearing. She had answers to all our questions and struck exactly the right balance throughout the evening.
The presentation of the dishes was among the most elegant I’ve seen anywhere in Iceland. As you can tell from the photos, this is food as art. Head chef Nick – despite his name – is Icelandic, though he was born in the Philippines. His culinary creations are thoughtful, precise, and visually stunning. I’d call him a true artist in the kitchen, and not just for show – every bite delivered on flavor as much as aesthetics.
Fiskmarkaðurinn is a modern Icelandic restaurant with a refined Asian twist. If you’re looking for a memorable dining experience in Reykjavík, this is a place that delivers on every level.
