There’s something wonderfully peaceful and quietly romantic about Berunes in Berufjörður. The view as you approach the house is already a promise of what’s to come. Ólafur and Anna, the couple behind Berunes, have built this place with love, care, and impeccable taste. On the day we visited, their sons Róbert and Þórir Ólafsson were holding down the fort — and doing a fine job of it.

Sometimes, simplicity really is best. That became clear as soon as dinner was served. Berunes offers a fixed four-course menu that changes daily or weekly, depending on what’s in season or freshly available.

Honest, delicious food at a very fair price — in one of the most beautiful fjords in Iceland. What more could you ask for?
