Barbara Café bar in Hafnarfjörður
We hopped on our bikes with our friends Vildís and Charles and headed to Hafnarfjörður for a little autumn adventure. By the time we rolled into town, a few raindrops had started to fall and there was that cozy chill in the air that just begs for a café stop.
Barbara, right on Strandgata (across from the charming old Bæjarbíó cinema), was the perfect choice. The moment we stepped inside, we were greeted by warmth, chatter, and that nostalgic vibe that makes you want to linger.
Barbara is so much more than “just a café.” Sure, you can get coffee and cake – but also hearty comfort food like grilled sandwiches, hot cheesy sauces, lasagna, and meatballs. Perfect for warming up after a ride!
Of course, we couldn’t resist dessert: we shared a slice of chocolate cake, carrot cake, and the classic Icelandic “sjónvarpskaka.” All three were absolutely delicious – a sweet ending to a perfect little bike trip.
Travel tip: Strandgata is such a fun and charming street to stroll, with plenty to see along the way. If you’re driving, there’s free parking nearby – super convenient if you’re coming from Reykjavík.
